We came out on fire, and within 5 minutes debutant Alex Branum and Daniel Morali were teaming up beautifully and missed a one-on-one each before Daniel did put Alex through for us to go 1-0 up, a debut goal after 8 minutes. Daniel then had another superb shot saved that stopped us from going 2-0 up. We looked much stronger and really up for the game, their defence was shocked.
Out of nothing, a long ball from midfield into the box was not claimed and their striker got there ahead of us to finish nicely to make it 1-1 on the 30th minute. From this moment Hod Hasharon played some nice football and started to really control the game.
And they scored a nice goal on the 42nd minutes to make it 2-1; outwitting our defence as they drove into our box. One minute later a long ball from Toby Green caused a mix up between their goalkeeper and defender, Mert Vasit took the chance and was rewarded by scoring into an open net.
Unfortunately though, Eli Kolach, who had a wonderful first-half, miss judged a ball over the top leading with his foot instead of his head to clear it, allowing their striker with just Roy Konfino to beat, who was chipped so we went in at half-time 3-2 down.
We spoke at halftime that more goals would be in this game and their defence was not so strong. However, it was they that would score the goals as we then made a catalogue of errors.
A free kick was awarded to Hod Hasharon outside the box; the ball was rolling so we were not ready, they took it quickly while the ball was moving and they tapped in the ball to make it 4-2, the referee was not interested in our protests. But a few minutes later we were back in the game again as Eze Brotsky found Joey Spijer on the left who cut inside and finished beautifully to make it 4-3 with 30 minutes still to play.
But then as we looked dangerous again and pushed for a goal, a very uncharacteristic mistake by Toby, as he gifted the ball to their striker who ran through to score and make it 5-3.
With both our centre backs now off injured, for the final 8 minutes Matt Keston went 3 at the back and put all our strikers on to go for it, however that would backfire as they hit us twice on the break, we were outnumbered and punished for our lack of numbers at the back.
The result was painful for all but we need to pick ourselves up and prepare for a game that will be just as difficult against Estudiantes next Saturday.
