We started the game with an early lead in the 3rd minute via Ben Chajet and the next 10-15 mins we were great on the ball, looked comfortable and were taking control of the game. But all of a sudden, we were punished by a quick counter attack. 1-1.

The lack of keeper made it difficult for us to settle, meaning we had to switch the keeper every 22 mins, meaning lots of rotation and little consistency. But it didn’t take us too long to respond with a great goal from Alex Branum from Nate Sadoun’s assist - we were back in the lead! 2-1.

Another long ball behind our defence allowed for our opposition to square the game with a great strike passed our 2nd interim keeper David Garzon into the bottom corner. 2-2.

We went into half-time level, and agreed on going back in with a lower back line to avoid exposure again. But to our dismay, it took Ashdod only five mins to score a great goal from distance. 3-2.

After a ridiculous call from the referee, we went down to 10 men via a second yellow card given to Nathan Sadoun. Even the Ashdod manager admitted that it wasn’t a red card. A ridiculous call, but one we had to live with.

The intensity only grew in the game, and there were many bad challenges being made on both sides. We gave as good as we got and showed a lot of heart. But down to a rare error from Reuben Lewis who’d been having a good game, led to our opposition being placed through on goal to make it 4-2.

After their gift of a goal, they sat back inviting pressure. We created countless chances but we weren’t able to finish, until skipper James Green scored a great goal from a David Garzon assist. The comeback was on as we created many chances on goal, but it wasn’t meant to be.
