On Saturday, INTERCLASICO II took place as Inter White and Inter Blue faced off against each other for the second time this season, the return fixture in the International Football League of Israel 2nd division. In the first-ever derby, Inter Blue dominated and won 4-0, but last weekend was a far closer affair.
It was a slow start from both teams and Inter Blue looked a bit uncomfortable at the back at times, although stand-in keeper Daniel Cabral only really had to make one save in the first half.
However, it was Inter Blue who opened the scoring on the 26th minute. Misha Marianoff held the ball in the middle before passing to Facu Cervigni, who did a great one-two with David Hovav. Inter White's defence failed to stop the move, allowing Facu to cross to Josh Fischbach who found the empty net. There were calls for offside, but the referee did not budge.
After the break, it was Inter White who was more threatening going forward and Daniel made a fantastic save from a header from a corner just two minutes into the half. Aside from a few long-range efforts from Ran Sarusi, Inter Blue did not create too much and it didn't come as a surprise when the scores were levelled on the 66th minute.
Some determined pressing down Inter White's right-hand side saw Anthony Levy pull the ball back into the box to Alex Branum, who fired a rocket of a shot into the top corner.
There was a penalty shout for Inter White shortly after which the referee controversially gave a yellow card to Daniel Morali for diving and it was clear that the next goal would be an all-important one to win the game.
With just 10 minutes to go, a great move for Inter Blue starting with Daniel in goal saw Facu hold the ball and wait to release the perfect through ball in between centre-back and full-back. Tom Printac was there to receive the ball and with one touch, he passed the ball into the bottom corner, very much Thierry Henry-esque.
Inter White threw everything they had for the last 10 minutes and missed a few glorious chances, while Daniel Cabral continued to perform well in the goal.
In the end, even though a draw was probably a fair result, Inter Blue showed their experience and composure to earn bragging rights for the second straight derby.
