The story of Saturday night's game was one of missed chances and opportunities for our B side. The first half was balanced, with only one really good chance falling for each team. David Salem was through on goal after just a few minutes, shooting on target but a good save by the opposition goalkeeper stopped the Argentinian midfielder from finding the net.
On the other end, the same situation transpired following a good save by Spanish keeper David Bennaroch.
In the second half, we came out much better, passing nicely, controlling the play and creating many chances. However, we could not break the deadlock and were left to rue the one-on-one misses, free-kick hitting the post and shots just going wide; we just couldn't put the ball in the net.
The sending off in the 78th minute of the Etz Netanya centre-back actually didn't help us as the game was stopped in its stride. Netanya, fearing conceding a winner, began wasting time as much as possible and we started to rush our passes and make bad decisions.
Overall, we fought well for the ball, played nicely as a team and were unlucky not to score. Well done to Max Russell on a solid debut performance and to the entire defence and goalkeeper David on working hard to not concede a goal ourselves.
We remain unbeaten after our opening 3 matches in the IFLI Division 2 season, sitting 4th in the table. Next week, we play runaway leaders IFU South.
Man of the match: Kevin Packer 🔥
