The 2023/24 season officially kicked off with the National Cup qualifying round, where we travelled to fellow Liga Bet side Hapoel Kiryat Ono and advanced into the next round after an impressive win in the heat.
There was a debut start for Saar Cohen, as well as the return of Faris Abdulrasul on the other wing, with Gianni Conti stepping in as captain amongst the rest of the squad who returned from last season.
Debutant Saar got the game's first goal, just minutes after he was denied a penalty from an almost identical chance when Itay Kugel again set him through on goal. The second time he made no mistake and gave us a lead into half time.
After the break, Kiryat Ono desperately tried to get back in the game, but an incredible assist from Yuri Nucenovich tempted the Kiryat Ono keeper to come out of his goal, allowing Oded Puzis to sneak in and get the all-important second goal.
A late consolation, combined with a Gaston Fratesi red card, set up a nervy finish but we held on to win the game and set up a clash with Hapoel Azur in the next round.
